Psychic Tarot and
Astrology
Tarot and astrology
Astrology and the tarot have may things in common, including the use of the
language of symbols. These astrological associations are of great significance in psychic tarot readings.
Astrology, the science of the stars, and the tarot as a means of divination, both result from a mythical and poetic
interpretation of the world. Tarot cards have an astrological association for you according to your birthday: one
for your sun or starsign, and one for the sign of your ruling planet.
These astrological signs give can give a strong insight into
someone's character. When you combine the astrological symbolism with the tarot, you have created a very powerful
divination tool.
Astrology in the tarot is not the same as pure astrology,
because joining these two psychic divinatory systems changes their nature to some extent. You don't need to
be an astrologer to use the tarot this way.
When assigning astrological meanings to the individual cards, when these cards
come up in a psychic Tarot reading, they can also be understood in terms of their astrological symbolism. The
Magician is connected to the planet Mercury, and so can be discussed in terms of what you know about Mercury, or
the importance of Mercury in a person's astrology chart. Through this approach, you can learn to understand
astrology more. Understanding the meaning of the Magician Tarot card, will make it easier for you to grasp the
concepts and mythological meanings around Mercury.
By linking certain Tarot cards to starsigns and others to
planets, the cards can be used in combinations for readings. If the Magician appears with the Emperor card which is
in the first house (Aries) you can view the cards as similar to what happens when Mercury enters Aries, or you may
want to look at the person's chart and see how the sun sign (Aries) and planet (Mercury) relate to each
other.
Astrological associations with the cards help with one of the
most difficult parts of a psychic Tarot reading, predicting the time when something is likely to happen. Psychic
Readings often show that a certain development is likely to occur, but not always when. If the Magician and the
Emperor appear, then the change may occur when Mercury next enters Aries. Mercury is a fast-moving planet, so would
not take long. But if the Judgement card came up in a reading, that would be Pluto entering Aries, and would take
much longer for the event to occur.
According to the Golden Dawn system, each sign and its ruling
planet has a corresponding tarot card and colour. During the time of the Order, people knew only seven planets, the
Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
These seven planets, plus the 12 signs, make 19. In order to
match the 22, cards, the Golden Dawn assigned three cards the elements of Fire, Water, and Air. But a few years
after the Order ended, astronomers discovered three more planets. Astrology and the Major Tarot Arcana now
fitted perfectly. 22 cards equal 12 signs and 10 planets.
